Abstract

The Indian telecom industry is the second fastest growing in the world next only to China in terms of subscriber additions. The intense competition witnessed among players has resulted in price wars resulting in lower revenues and further the huge license fee imposed by the government has had a severe negative impact on the operating margins of the industry players. In this challenging scenario, the authors felt the need to analyse the financial position of one the leading players in the industry by employing the tool of leverage analysis. The company's EBIT growth has been moderate. All the three leverages has shown a marked increase during the study period. The interest expense to total debt ratio and concomitantly, the interest expense to total expenditure has also increased during the period of study. Variable costs as percentage of fixed costs has declined while variable costs as percentage of revenue has been stable. It was suggested that the company considered for the discussion and in general all telecom companies need to revisit their business model and focus on earning higher share of revenues through providing a comprehensive suite of value added services. Consistent efforts need to be taken on revenue generation and cost control in order to improve earnings visibility. Measures need to be taken to retire high cost debt in a phased manner so as to improve the liquidity and solvency position of the organizations.

Abstract

The insurance sector in India is on a high growth trajectory and has been growing at an attractive pace in the post liberalization era. Though insurance penetration has increased from 1.4% in 1999 to 4.7% currently, it also points out the huge potential that is waiting to be tapped. The liberalization of the sector in the year 1999, opened up the flood gates of competition. The intense competition has led to paradigm changes in the industry in terms of product offerings, introduction of riders, emergence of new distribution channels etc., The industry for a long time had been relying on the agency channel for garnering business. However the need for remaining competitive, reaching out to customers in different demographic segments and the imperative of faster growth have led insurers to innovate with regard to distribution channels also. In this context, a new emerging channel is malassurance, which is the distribution of insurance through malls. With the organised retail sector expanding at a rapid pace, there has been a phenomenal increase in the construction of malls. The rising foot falls in malls has motivated Future Generali Life Insurance Co., to tap the potential of this emerging trend and distribute insurance through malls. This paper discusses the concept of malassurance, the performance and potential of malassurance, the current scenario and also the measures taken by the company to make it successful.

Abstract

The objective of the work is to analyze the impact of weather conditions on different types of MANET routing protocols. The influence of weather on the performances of MANET protocols such as AODV, STAR, RIP and ZRP are compared with and without considering weather conditions. Most of the works are not considering the effect of weather, when analysing the performances of MANET protocols. The simulations are carried out using Qualnet 5.0 with 100 nodes. The mobility model used for simulation is the Random waypoint model, where each node is moving independently to reach the destination with a random velocity. The velocity of each mobile node varies from 10 m/s to 50 m/s with the weather intensity of 1000 deg/m2. The performance metrics such as end to end delay, jitter, through put and packet delivery ratio are analysed and compared. The simulation results reveals that AODV provides better throughput and high packet delivery ratio compared to other protocols under with and without considering weather. STAR protocol yields good performance with respect to end to end delay and jitter under both conditions.

Abstract

This Paper presents the design of compact wide band monopole antenna a for Wi-MAX application. The proposed antenna radiates at a bandwidth which meet the requirements of Wi-MAX standards. It uses the easily available low cost FR4 substrate, which makes the antenna cost effective. The antenna structures consist of set of I shaped slits at appropriate locations to produce notch at 3.5GHz with wide bandwidth. The measured results reveal that the proposed compact wide band monopole antenna offers a wide bandwidth of 500 MHz, covering the entire 3.4 GHz-3.6 GHz WiMAX band.

Abstract

A novel stability indicating liquid chromatographic assay method was developed and validated as per ICH guide lines for the quantitative estimation of Aripiprazole in tablet formulation. An isocratic reverse phase LC-method was developed using Phenomenex Luna C18, 150 x 4.6mm, 5μm column and a mobile phase comprising of Acetonitrile and Phosphate buffer, 0.05M (40:60 v/v). The detector set at 227nm with flow rate of 1.0mL min^-1. The method is Linear in rage of 25μg mL^-1 to 200 μg mL^-1. The Accuracy of the method was found to be in the range of 99.95% to 100.0%. The mean Inter and Intraday assay Relative Standard deviation (%RSD) were less than 1.0%. The Analyte and mobile phase were stable up to 48hours. The Proposed method was found to be Linear, precise and accurate for the quantitative estimation of Aripiprazole in tablet formulations and can be used for commercial purposes.

Abstract

Periapical radiolucencies are the commonest radiographic findings for dental practioner's. The commonest cause of periapical cysts and periapical granulomas are well known. This article is a review of studies published on the above mentioned topic. Studies have been reported on radiographic lesion sizes of periapical lesions. However none have been reported on prevalence of subjective radiographic features in these lesions except for the early assumption that a periapical cyst usually exhibits a radiopaque cortex. The purpose of this article is to evaluate the prevalence of several subjective radiographic features of periapical cysts and granulomas in the hope to identify features that maybe suggestive of either diagnosis. The conclusion of various studies came into a nutshell as that a regular (circular or semi-circular) radiographic outline is likely to be a periapical cyst while an irregular radiographic outline is not indicative of either a cyst or a granuloma.

Abstract

Performance of automobile transmission systems is evaluated at different attitudes of the engine in order to simulate dynamic acceleration inputs. Dynamic test rigs presently being used for this purpose are of very large in physical size and not readily adaptable for use in the confines of conventional engine test systems. Moreover, these systems makes use of hydraulic power, which is not well adapted to an engine test system environment because of lack of centralized hydraulic power in these systems and potential problems with the use of high-pressure hydraulics in a high-temperature environment where mechanical damage to hydraulic power is possible. To get rid of the problems with conventional test rigs, design of powertrain attitude simulator is taken up in this project. This simulator can be comfortably used for testing engines, transmissions, gearboxes and etc. The intended system includes inner and outer frames that are rotated independently by gear reduced electric motors. The end result of this project would be a simulator, which provides both static and dynamic testing of automobile transmission systems during their operation in varying attitudes.

Abstract

Today, Design of Experiments (DOE) has been widely used for various designs and manufacturing processes to obtain precisional quality and to optimize the product or processes design. In this contest, the present paper determines the best weld parameters for precisional welding with the aid of DOE & finite element analysis (FEA). Weld quality is mainly depends on penetration area. The factors which drives penetration area are heat flux, welding speed, metal preheat and plate thickness and ambient temperature. In this ambient temperature is an uncontrollable factor and remaining are considered as process control parameters. L9 orthogonal array is used in the investigation. The nine orthogonal array tests are analyzed computationally by ANSYS FEA-thermal module (commercial-software). Finally, best set of process control parameters, which opts better quality, is determined from S/N curves.
